Art is my passion.
For as long as I can remember I have “gone to my room and made things.” It all began as a child when my mother turned over her sewing machine to me. Then as a young adult, I began painting lessons. So my deepest artistic interests were then, and still are, in painting and fiber.
For many years I tended to keep the two mediums separate. But over time, the lines between them began to blur, and frequently painting and fiber now appear in the same piece. My newest interest is in felt making, both needle felting and wet felting.
The natural surroundings that I observe give me much inspiration. I am interested most in close up views and textures of what is around me. Walks in the North Carolina mountains bring me endless pleasure. So much of my work depicts textures and layers, such as would be seen in a landscape.
My childhood and youth were spent in Columbus, Ohio, followed by college at Miami University, in Oxford, O. After marriage, my husband and I moved to Poughkeepsie, NY and six years later to Raleigh, NC, where I currently reside.
My painting career began in NC, and progressed through university classes and workshops across the southeast. Another major factor in my development as an artist was becoming a part of various critique groups, which I continue to this day. My work is seen regularly in juried shows and often wins awards, and is purchased by individuals and corporations.
In 1989, I became a juried member of Artspace, a visual arts center in downtown Raleigh which has studios and galleries. For many years I maintained a studio there.
